Over the years, I would test my refiner by splitting the lot between 2 or even 3 refiners, or make up casting buttons of known Karat. I would send in the lots and compare the results. You would be surprised by the results sometimes. If you called to say what happened, they always had a reason and sometimes would even send you additional funds, because they knew you had them. With Michael, I have never had a problem and anytime I have pulled a test on his company, he has always given a better yield and better pay. Yes, I do still test once in a while.

"...After 20 years of using other refiners, I have finally seen the light! It is my estimate that the "Captain" has made my latest scrap run yield 15% over the aforementioned refiners. Not including the fact, that I will get back my diamond melee. I just think of the time saved to remove the 5.00+ carats of diamond melee. I based this estimate on a tried and true formula I have used for about 10 years using another refiner (based on what I sent in compared to the return-4 times a year for 10 years. Recovery with North American Metals was always + or - 1.00%-1.50% of what I calculated. Believe it or not, the Captain's return was 15.07% over my estimated calculation-WOW!!! Based on this calculation, I lost about $8K last year using the other refiner. Don't get me wrong, I have always liked the other refiner. They have always been very nice and the 24 hour turnaround has come in handy during critical cash crisis moments, however, in the future, I will be patient and spend the time thinking of the extra profit. I have found a new "Captain" for my scarp boat!
